Franz Lachner was born in Bavaria on April 2, 1803, as part of a large family of musicians. Although he received a well-rounded education, music was his primary interest. In 1822, he moved to Vienna to study under Stadler and Sechter, and formed a close friendship with Schubert. Lachner served as the capellmeister of the Karthnerther Theatre until 1834, after which he moved to Mannheim and then to Munich, where he eventually became conductor of the Court Opera. Additionally, he conducted the sacred concerts of the Court Band, as well as concerts and festivals in Munich and Aix-la-Chappelle. Throughout his career, Lachner was a prolific composer and produced numerous important works.
