Federico Mompou was a Spanish composer and pianist. He is best known for his solo piano works which are characterized by their simple yet profound melodies and impressionistic harmonies. Mompou was born on April 16, 1893 in Barcelona, Spain, and began his musical studies at the Conservatori Superior de Música del Liceu in Barcelona. He later studied in Paris with the likes of Maurice Ravel and Francis Poulenc. Mompou's music reflects his Catalan heritage and is often described as introspective and meditative. He died in Barcelona in 1987.
