Biography: Biography of George Onslow (1784-1853), French Beethoven. George Onslow is a special figure in the history of music: he was widely and unanimously recognized when he was alive, but now he is almost forgotten, and his works, mostly devoted to string chamber music, have hardly disappeared from the repertoire, partly because they were not over the past century, innovations have become available in the form of a publication. Descended from an old aristocratic British family, several members of which played an important role in British political life (his grandfather, the first Earl of Onslow, was Speaker of the House of Commons), George Onslow was born in Clermont-Ferrand in central France in 1784. His father Edward settled there after a family scandal forced him to leave his birthplace.
