Arthur Sullivan was an English composer, best known for his partnership with librettist W. S. Gilbert, creating fourteen comic operas together including H.M.S. Pinafore, The Pirates of Penzance, and The Mikado. He also composed sacred music and popular songs, and was knighted by Queen Victoria in 1883.
