Bedřich Smetana was a Czech composer who is widely considered to be the father of Czech music. He was born on March 2, 1824 in what is now the Czech Republic. He was a pioneer in the development of a distinct Czech musical style and is best known for his symphonic poem cycle 'Má vlast' ('My Country') which celebrates Czech folklore, legends, and landscapes.
