Ukrainian composer, choir conductor, pedagogue, folklorist.in 1899 graduated from Podolė Kamenets Theological Seminary, where he studied music theory and choir conducting. 1903-1913 studied composition theory privately in Moscow with B. Jaworski. 1918-1920 taught at Kyiv Conservatory, Kyiv Music and Drama Institute. He created folk choirs, led them, recorded Ukrainian folk songs. in 1919 founded the first Ukrainian symphony orchestra and Ukrainian choir.He composed four poems for the choir, including Iceman (Льодолом), My Song (Моя писня), Legend (Легенда), harmonized revolutionary Russian and Ukrainian folk songs. Published collections of recorded and harmonized folk songs (1901, 1903)
