The individual was born on July 13, 1938 in L'viv, which was then part of Poland but is now in Ukraine. He came from a family with a background in education and received formal training in music from 1945 at a music school in L'viv. He continued his education at the L'viv State V.Lysenko Conservatoire and pursued post-graduated studies in composition at the Moscow State P.I.Tchaikovsky Conservatoire. He became a lecturer at L’viv Conservatoire and Kiev State P.I.Tchaikovsky Conservatoire, where he taught music theory and composition. He has had a prolific career, earning him many awards and titles. He is a member of the Ukrainian Composers’ Union and has authored two monographs.
