Luis Urteaga Iturrioz (21 June 1882 - 3 June 1960) was a Basque composer. He trained at the Atheneum of Madrid Conservatory and the Privat scale and Ildefonso Ibarra schools. Urteaga dedicated his life not only to music but also to law, writing various legal works. He created his own musical style, characterized by authentic Basque and gypsy elements. Urteaga mainly wrote vocal music with piano and orchestral accompaniment. His most famous work is the opera "Mendi Mendiyan" ("Mountains in the Mountains"), which he composed between 1925 and 1927, and premiered in Bilbao in 1930.
