Stephen Joshua Sondheim, an American composer and lyricist for both stage and film, is a decorated artist with a staggering amount of awards, including an Academy Award, several Tony Awards (more than any other composer), multiple Grammy Awards, and a Pulitzer Prize. Renowned by many as the "greatest artist working in musical theatre", some of his most famous works include scores for A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Company, Follies, A Little Night Music, Sweeney Todd, Sunday in the Park with George, Into the Woods, and Assassins, as well as lyrics for West Side Story and Gypsy. In addition to his artistic achievements, he was also previously the president of the Dramatists Guild from 1973 to 1981.
