Tárrega is often considered the father of modern guitar, as during his lifetime he standardised the small, quietly resonant collection of instruments into the large and robust form we know today. Tárrega was a man of all trade marks. He was a teacher who enthusiastically organised club meetings and concerts; he was a performer who popularised the new guitar; he arranged numerous works for the instrument and also wrote various music for technical training and performance, the most famous being "Recuerdos de la Alhambra", a musical portrait of Granados, the courtyards of the mausoleum, the Moorish heritage.
