Paganini extracted wonderful sounds from the violin at such a frenzied pace that his listeners were in ecstasy. "Demonic" was only one of the epithets with which critics awarded his violin playing. One of his concert-goers even claimed to have seen the devil standing next to Paganini and guiding the violinist's bow.
