Bartosz Kowalski (Kowalski-Banasewicz), a graduate of the Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw in the class of prof. Marian Borkowski and Postgraduate Studies in Film, Computer and Audiovisual Music, conducted at the Academy of Music in Łódź under the direction of, among others, Krzysztof Knittel, Krzesimir Dębski, Paweł Mykietyn, Włodek Pawlik, Zygmunt Konieczny, Maciej Zieliński. He perfected his skills as part of a scholarship during workshops at the Musikhochschule in Stuttgart and during the International Seminar of the Representatives of Composition Departments of Music Universities of Central European Countries in Prague. In 2017, he obtained the title of habilitated doctor.
He is the author of over a hundred compositions, among which a significant number are symphonic, orchestral, choral and chamber works as well as film music. He is a laureate of the main prizes in over twenty national and international composition competitions, e.g. International Composers' Competition Krzysztof Penderecki "Arboretum", the Kazimierz Serocki International Composition Competition, the Grzegorz Fitelberg, the Composition Competition named after Karol Szymanowski, Wanda Landowska National Composition Competition, Tadeusz Baird Composition Competition three times, Musica Sacra International Composition Competition six times and many others. He received the Scholarship of the Minister of Culture and Art three times (1997, 2006, 2020) and the Association of Authors ZAiKS (2005). He also received the title of Composer-in-Residence of the Świętokrzyska Philharmonic (in the 2012/13 season). In 2014 he received the bronze medal "Gloria Artis" awarded by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage. As an improvising instrumentalist (trumpet, cornet, French horn, recorders, piano, guitars, electronic instruments) he takes part in numerous concerts and happenings related to improvised music. He is an ordinary member of the Polish Composers' Union, an ordinary member of ZAiKS and a member of the Polish Association of Electroacoustic Music.
