World-renowned French light music composer, arranger, conductor and pianist.
He studied music from the age of 11 at the Paris Conservatoire from 1943 to 1950.
He was only 22 years old when his first album I Love Paris became one of the best-selling instrumental albums ever released. He is also a virtuoso pianist, performing jazz and classical works. Michel Legrand has collaborated with jazz pioneers and stars such as Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Ella Fitzgerald and Aretha Franklin, as well as Diana Ross, Frank Sinatra, Barbra Streisand and others.
Michel Legrand has composed more than a hundred scores for film and television, several musicals, and over a hundred music albums. He has won three Oscars, for which he has been nominated 13 times, 5 Grammy Awards and has been nominated for an Emmy.
He has received worldwide acclaim for his scores for the films "The Touch of Cherbourg" (1964) and "The Girls from Rochefort" (1966). His Hollywood collaborations led to further popularity with tunes from The Thomas Crown Affair (1968) and Summer of '42 (1971).
