After graduating from Liškiava secondary school, he studied Lithuanian studies at Vilnius University from 1964 to 1969. For several years he worked as a secretary of the University's Scientific Council and as the chief scientific editor of the Minties publishing house. In 1986 he defended his doctoral thesis "Philosophical and Social Views of Pranas Dovydaicis", and in 2005 he was awarded the degree of habilitated doctor of humanities. In 2006, he published a monograph "The Nature and Meaning of Lithuanian Moral Identity", and in 2009 - "Outline of the History of Lithuanian Philosophy and Ethics". He has published about 50 scientific, several essay and journalistic articles. He has written poems and published several collections of them. For several years he was head of the Ethics Department of the Institute of Culture, Philosophy and Art (now the Lithuanian Culture Research Institute) and the Department of Ethics of Vilnius Pedagogical University (now the Lithuanian University of Educational Sciences).
