Graduated from the Lithuanian Art Institute in 1985.Doctor of Humanities in 1995.
Since 1993, lecturer at Vilnius Academy of Arts. 1985-2002 Researcher at the Institute of Culture and Art, 2002-2004 Researcher at the Art History Department of the Institute of Culture, Philosophy and Art. 1993-1999 Research Professor at the Faculty of Art and Art History of Vilnius University, 1993-1999. Deputy Director of the Soros Centre for Contemporary Art. Since 2000 Head of the Contemporary Art Information Centre of the Lithuanian Art Museum, since 2002 Head of the Lithuanian National Art Gallery. Curator of the art exhibitions "After Painting", 1998, "Innocent Life", 2000, both in Vilnius, curator of the Lithuanian Art Exposition at the Venice Biennale in 1999, 2005 and others. 2004-2007 Vice-Chairman of the Lithuanian Council for Culture and Art, member of the expert team that prepared the application for the project Vilnius - European Capital of Culture 2009 to the European Union.
