Lithuanian folk artist and painter.
1971 - graduated in photography from Vilnius Technological Technical College. In 1975-1976 she worked in the photo laboratory of the Vilnius University Library, and since 1976 she has worked as a restorer at the Museum of Folk Life in Rumšiškės.
She has painted figurative compositions ("Midsummer's Night" in 1973, "Baptismal Feast" in 1976, "Carousel" in 1978, "Evening at the Minijos" in 1984, triptych "Milk Blossom" 1999, "St. Martha", "Margarita", 2005), portraits ("Parents" 1972, "Me, Mother, Brother and Cousin" 1975), landscapes ("Nida" 1976, "Walking" 1986, "Landscape with Oak Trees" 1992), still-lifes. According to art critics who have analysed Elena's work, her paintings reflect a distinctive folk worldview and a deep understanding of human existence. Her early paintings use simplified motifs, while her later ones are dominated by a more complex spatial structure, panoramic and multi-figure compositions, and Christian themes. The paintings are characterised by a clear compositional structure, decorative and metaphorical imagery, suggestive colouring, a melancholic mood, and a primitive painting style close to the folk art tradition. Since 1974 he has been participating in exhibitions. She has been awarded the Paulus Galaunė Prize of the Ministry of Culture, and in 2004 she was a laureate of the Republican Adamas Varnas Painting Competition. In 2008, the Foundation of the Union of Folk Artists published a monograph on Elena Kniūkštaitė.
