Artist Malle Leis is the only Estonian so far whose artwork, two paintings, has sold at Sotheby's. Leis studied at the Tartu Art School from 1958 to 1961, enrolled at the Estonian National Institute of Art in 1961, specialising in metalworking, and graduated in scenography in 1967. Malle Leis was once a member of the legendary group ANK'64 and was a member of the English Association of Flower Painters from 1987 to 2003. Malle Leis was awarded the Jaan Jensen Prize in 1984 and the Order of the White Star, 4th Class in 2001. Her works are in the Estonian Art Museum, the Tartu Art Museum and private collections in the USA, Russia, Hungary and Poland. In addition to Estonia, Malle Leis' work has been exhibited in Finland, Latvia, Poland, Slovenia, USA, Germany, Canada, Russia, Australia and Ireland. Leis's 1989 exhibition in Pennsylvania is still the largest solo exhibition of Estonian artists in the USA.
