1946-1950 studied at the Vilnius Pedagogical Institute (Lithuanian language and literature). From 1952 he taught in Klaipėda district schools. 1967-1988 - photographer at the Klaipėda Domestic Population Service Combine. Since 1971 participated in exhibitions, held more than 50 individual exhibitions in Lithuania and abroad. Honorary member of the Lithuanian Union of Photographers (since 1993). Artist Photographer of the International Federation of Artistic Photography (since 1976), Honoured Artist Photographer (since 1994). He created the series of photographs "Motifs of the Pomeranian Sea" (1972), "Last Call" (1972-87), "Dunes" (1975), "Young Klaipėda" (1979), and published the photography album "Photographs" (2007).
V. Straukas is a representative of lyrical realism, his work is characterised by a naive, unpretentious, straightforward style, adjustments to the structure of the frame, predominantly emotional states, expressive movements. The cycles of photographs are like literary narratives about the beauty of everyday life and love of life. She has won more than 70 awards. Knight's Cross of the Order of Gediminas (1999).
