Graduated from the Lithuanian Art Institute in 1971, teachers Juozas Kėdainis, Gediminas Jokūbonis. 1968-1977 taught at the Vilnius Art School. Since 1971 participated in exhibitions. He burnt himself to death in protest against the occupation of Lithuania, at the Soviet-Hungarian border.
The most significant part of his work is small sculpture (Rytas (Morning) 1974, Kristoforas prie Vilnelės (Kristoforas prie Vilnelės) 1985, June Lamentation (June Lamentation), Madonna of the Gulag (Gulag Madonna), Kidnapping of Europe (all in 1989). He has created monumental decorative sculptures ("Barnabas Goes to the Sea", 1977, "The Nightingale", 1982, both in Klaipėda, "Versmė", 1982 in Ariogala, "Lakštingala", 1985 in Vilnius), portraits ("Printmaker Pranciškus Skorina", 1974), medals ("Kristijonas Donelaitis", "Maironis", "Vaižgantas", "Antanas Gudaitis", 1984-1987), memorial plaques, interior compositions ("Pegasus in a Café", "The Site of Literati", 1985 in Vilnius). He created sculptures, about 100 of them, in wood ("Oak Tree", 1972), terracotta ("Self-Portrait with the poetry of O. Khayyam", 1976), "He walked through Lithuania, 1989), bronze ("Old Park", 1981), mainly in individual electroplating ("The Sleeping King", 1980, "Bride to Procrustes", 1984).
The works are expressive, combining irony, grotesque, and lyricism. Posthumous individual exhibitions were held in Vilnius (1991-1992, 2003), Kretinga, Mažeikiai (both 2000).
