Active promoter of the cultural life of Klaipėda city. He has created distinctive, important sculptures that have become symbols of the city. Sakalauskas' sculptures decorate the Sculpture Park, and bas-reliefs mark the walls of historically important buildings. Notable monuments include the monument "United to Lithuania", commemorating the annexation of Lithuania Minor to Lithuania Major, the monument to Liudvik Reza in Kaliningrad, and the monument to the poet Antanas Baranauskas in Anykščiai, for which the artist was awarded the Lithuanian National Prize in 1994. The sculptor's works are characterised by their plastic variety, monumentality and suggestiveness. The sculptor teaches art students in Vilnius and Klaipėda, heads the art department and the Klaipėda branch of the Artists' Union. Thanks to his active creative activity, Klaipėda can be proud of its distinctive image, attractive, youthful energy.
