Vilnius-based artist, who graduated from the Vilnius Academy of Arts in 2005 with a degree in painting, and her teacher is painting legend Arvydas Šaltenis. She has held several solo and more than ten group exhibitions, and is a regular participant of plein-air and international exhibitions.
Aistė Bugailiškytė's style is easily recognizable and memorable - expressive in colour, clearly belonging to the Lithuanian colouristic painting school. The artist is a time tamer, "taming" time like a wild beast with a single stroke of a brush and turning it into a meek, domestic cat. In her "interior portraits" (portrait d'intérieur, a very popular genre of painting in the 19th century), time is transformed into a lazy, sleepy state. The entire reality of the painting is binary - the interiors of antique furniture are embedded with a modern detail, they are theatrical, like a stage where the performance of life is about to begin... In the paintings of Aistė Bugailiškytė, the human being is a rare guest, playing only a minor role. In her paintings, stories are "told" by the interior: furniture, windows, curtains, mirrors, flower pots, and these stories amount to a whole novel about love and suffering, dreams, longing, moments of happiness...
