Algimantas Armonas is a film director, born in 1957 in Varniai, Telšiai district. From 1965-1969 he studied at Varniai Secondary School, from 1969-1976 - at the Choreography Department of M. K. Čiurlionis Secondary Art School. In 1975-1977 he worked as a dance artist in the state song and dance ensemble "Lietuva". In 1977-1979 he studied at the Choreography Department of the Klaipėda Faculty of the Lithuanian State Conservatoire, and in 1979-1982 at the Directing Department. In 1982, 1984-1991 he worked as a methodologist and director at the Kelme Chamber of Culture, in 1991-1992 he worked as the deputy head of the Department of Culture and Education of the Kelme District Board of Culture and Education, and in 1992-2023 he worked as the head of the Kelme Small Theatre and as a director.
Algimantas Armonas is a versatile director, who produces performances for both children and adults, comedy plays, dramas and plays of absurdism. He has staged 35 plays: the drama "Egle the Serpent Queen" by K. Inčiura, "Let's Save Time" by V. Kalvaicis (1985), "The Cats' Shakedowns" by V. Kalvaicis (1986), "Odysseus's Journeys" by V. Kalvaicis, the poetic drama "Pūsk, vėjeli" by J. Rainis (1987), the poetic drama "Pūsk, vėjeli" (1987), the poetic drama "Pūsk, vėjeli" (1987), the poetry of J. Petrulio's "Black Brothers" (1990), J. Marcinkevičius's "Silver Arrow", J. Erlicks's "Columbus's Birthday", K. Inčiura's play "Painiava" (1991), Žemaitė's mask comedy "Three Lovers" (1992), V. V. Landsbergis' Krokokatinas (Kaunas Puppet Theatre, 1994), R. Kaškauskas' Pabališkių karčemoje (Pabališkių karčemoje) (1995), B. Dauguvietis' Žaldokynė (Žaldokynė) (1997), R. Kaskauskas' Mirusi šokėja (Dead Dancer) (2000), the musical fairy tale for children R. Kaškauskas' "The Travels of Piglets" (2004), an improvised forest fairy tale for adults "The Golden Key" by O. Jautakienė (2006), "The Slaughter of the Kražiai" by R. Kaskauskas (2008), "Queen Martha" by R. Flickas (2010), "The Crabs" by O. Jautakė's "Antosė and the Ghost", L. Janušytė's "The Spiritist Seance" (2011), K. Ostrauskas' "Chichinskas" (2013), Keturakis' "America in the Sauna" (2016), S. Mrozek's "On the High Seas" (2019), N. Miroshnichenko's "The One Who Will Open the Door" (2023), etc.
In 2002, she starred with her performance mask comedy "Three Loved Ones" in the film "Three Loved Ones or the Last Day" by the filmmaker A. Puipos. In 2012 he played the role of Dočis in the film Donaleitis by I. Kurklietytė and R. Abukevičius. He prepared 3 programmes for the Panevėžys Children's Song and Dance Ensemble "Pynimėlis". For many years he has organised international theatre festivals "Kelmė Scena", organised several regional festivals of "Atspindžiai", participated in the jury of the republican amateur theatre competition "Atspindžiai", and in 2023 he was the Chairman of the jury. He has represented Lithuania and Kelme in various theatre festivals in Lithuania and abroad.
The B. Dauguvietis Prize of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania was awarded in 1992 for the production of Žemaitė's mask comedy "Three Lovers" and in 1995 for the production of R. Kaškauskas' "Pabališkės karčemė". The latter performance was recognised as the best and won the Golden Amour transitional prize at the Klaipėda University, Faculty of Arts, Department of Directing graduate festival "Golden Amour".
In 2013, he was awarded the Kelme District Municipality Honorary Badge of Honour "For his contribution to the theatre arts, for his long-standing and significant creative work, and for the promotion of the name of Kelme region in the country and abroad.
Two programmes prepared for the children's song and dance ensemble "Pynimėlis" in Panevėžys were awarded with the "Golden Bird" award by the Lithuanian National Centre for Culture and the Lithuanian Amateur Theatre Union.
He was awarded the diploma of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania for merits to Lithuanian theatre and development of the Samogitian culture, the diploma of the Samogitian Ethnic Culture Commission - for the promotion of the culture of ethnic theatre, other acknowledgements, letters of the laureate's name.
