In 1966-1974 Arvydas studied at Vilnius S. Nėries Secondary School and sang in the boys' choir "Ąžuoliukas" at the Republican Teachers' House. In 1974-1979 he studied choral conducting at the Lithuanian State Conservatoire (senior lecturer P. Gylis). During his studies he was the choirmaster of the academic choir of Vilnius State University and the girls' choir "Liepaitės" of the Republican Chamber of Trade Union Culture.
1979-1992 artistic director and chief conductor of the Children's Choir of the Lithuanian State Radio and Television Committee. In a few years he grew the group into a choir studio, which was attended by up to 200 schoolchildren from the capital. The main task of the choir was to enrich the radio and television library with new and valuable works and to give concerts. Every year the choir gave up to ten public concerts and recorded 50-60 new works on tape. In total, the choir recorded over 400 works for the Lithuanian Radio Foundations and gave over 100 public concerts.In 1985, it won the title of the best children's choir at the Republican Song Festival competition, and in 1987, it won first place at the Republican Schoolchildren's Song Festival competition. The choir was prepared for the Lithuanian National Song Festival in Vilnius in 1990, and performed well at the International Choir Festival in Belgium (Neerpelt) and in Hungary (Debrecen) in 1992. In 1990 the choir was awarded the title of Meritorious Collective.
Since autumn 1992 A. Girdzijauskas has been the director of the Klaipėda Humanitarian School of General Education (since 1997 Vydūnas Secondary School, since 2013 Klaipėda Vydūnas Gymnasium).
Since 1994 he has been the artistic director and the conductor of the youth choir (60-70 participants). The choir performs Renaissance and contemporary music, performs many concerts, participates in song festivals, festivals and other cultural events. The choir was a laureate of the 1997 Lithuanian Schoolchildren's Song Festival Competition, and won second prize in the 1997 XI International Stasys Šimkus Choir Competition. The choir was prepared for the 2nd World Lithuanian Song Festival in Vilnius in 1998.
A. Girdzijauskas was the conductor of the 1987 Republican Schoolchildren's Song Celebration, the 1990 Lithuanian National Song Celebration, and the 1994 First World Lithuanian Song Celebration in Kaunas and Vilnius. Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of the 1996 Žemaitija and Pamari Region Children's and Youth Song Festival in Klaipėda. Organiser of the children's and youth choir festival "Sing, Young Lithuania" in 1990 and 1991, one of the organisers of the Lithuanian Choir Union, President of the Union in 1989-1992. Member of the Lithuanian Music Teachers' Association and the Lithuanian Choral Union (member of the presidium), and member of the council of the Klaipėda Choral Society "Aukuras". Artistic director and chairman of the jury of the Republican Song Song Contests in 1994 and 1996. In 1987 he was awarded the honorary title of Merited Artist, in 1996 the qualification category of expert music teacher, in 1997 the second category of manager, in 1997 he was awarded the Gediminas medal of the third degree.
In 2008 he defended his dissertation in social sciences (music education) at the University of Klaipėda, entitled "The education of moral culture of pupils of higher grades through musical activities" (supervisor: Vanda Aramavičiūtė)
