Augustas Gocentas is a Lithuanian cellist born into a family of musicians in Vilnius. Augustas began his musical path in 2004 at the National M.K. Čiurlionis School of Arts where he was taught cello by Ramutė Kalnėnaitė. In addition he practised the piano in the same school for 11 years. In 2016 he started his Bachelor's degree in Cello Performance at the Sibelius Academy and continued his Master’s degree with prof. Martti Rousi. During 2019/2020 Augustas went for exchange to study with prof. Reinhard Latzko in Vienna Music and Arts University, Austria.
Augustas is a member of the European Union Youth Orchestra (EUYO), played with the Kremerata Baltica chamber orchestra, Baltic Sea Symphonic Orchestra and Symphonic Orchestra united by students of Sibelius and Juilliard schools. Musician has led Sibelius Academy Symphonic Orchestra and Mikroorkestra.
As a soloist he has performed with the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra, the Lithuanian State Symphonic Orchestra. Since 2017 Augustas played J. Haydn C major Cello Concerto with Latvian National Symphonic Orchestra and the Saint Christopher Orchestra, E. Lalo Cello Concerto with Romania Youth Orchestra and E. Elgar Cello Concerto with the European Union Youth Orchestra in 2021.
Since he studies in Finland, Augustas has been invited to many festivals such as Encuentro de Santander (Spain), “European Music Trails” (Germany, Lithuania), Moritzburg festival, “Super Cello” festival (Beijing), “Cello Festival” (Chingdao), EUYO 2021 summer project. He has won multiple competitions such as 9th A. Dambrovsky in Latvia, where he also received a special prize for obligatory piece interpretation and 10th K. Davydov competition, Latvia .
He has received masterclasses by the great cellists such as D. Geringas, F. Helmerson, E. Bronzi, Li- Wei Qin, O. Karlsson, J. Vogler, V. Sondeckis, , M. Leskovar, Wen-Sinn Yang, A. Brantelid, E. Testelec.
Augustas has been supported by S. Karosas and M. Rostropovich foundations. He is playing cello Blanchard, a generous loan from Sibelius Academy.
He loves his profession and holds a huge passion for it.
This is why Augustas tries to participate in every festival, project, competition or organise concerts by himself. Up to date, the cellist has organised 23 recitals with 10 different programs.
