In 1964 he graduated from the A. Lunacharsky Institute of Theatre Art in Moscow. He created plays at the Lithuanian Russian Drama, Šiauliai Drama and Lithuanian Drama theatres. 1967-1972 Chief Director of Kaunas Drama Theatre (dismissed for political reasons). Many plays produced in Lithuania were banned or censored. In 1974 he emigrated - lived in Austria, Germany and later in the USA. He staged plays in theatres in the USA, Japan, Belgium, Germany and Canada. In 1990-1992 he directed in Kaunas Drama Theatre. Visiting professor at universities in the USA and Canada.
