Blue Rose was brought up in a musical family in Bristol and attended a performing arts school where she first began to study the vocal approach of singers such as Elle Fitzgerald and Aretha Franklin. After school, she moved to Cambridge to study singing and voice, and took the opportunity to expand her repertoire to include the Gershwin Brothers and Cole Porter as well as more songs from the American song book.
After graduation, Blue Rose moved to London and began to develop the Blue Rose Jazz company, initially just herself and one pianist playing in cocktail bars, restaurants and hotels. As the revenue of the venues increased, so too did Blue Rose’s reputation.
Seven years on and the picture looks rather different! Blue Rose Jazz has a team of around 25 carefully selected musicians as well as Blue Rose herself as lead vocalist and musical director.
