was born in Biberach/Riß and now lives in Leutkirch in Allgäu. The saxophonist has received several awards at international competitions. He completed his studies in Munich and then moved to Arno Bornkamp's master class at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. From 2004-2013 he taught at the Augsburg and Würzburg music academies. Christian Segmehl is one of the most sought-after saxophonists in Germany and is a regular guest with many renowned orchestras throughout Germany and abroad: including the BR, HR, NDR, WDR, MDR symphony orchestras, Berlin, Munich and Stuttgart Philharmonic Orchestras, the state operas in Munich, Stuttgart, Mannheim and Hanover, the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal and the St. Petersburg State Orchestra. Concert invitations have taken him throughout Europe, to Russia, Southeast Asia, South Africa, Canada and the USA. In 2010 he received an "ECHO Klassik" award. Since 2013 he has been a freelance saxophonist and has performed with various chamber music partners such as Paul Rivinius, Moritz Eggert, Manuel Fischer-Dieskau, Reinhold Friedrich, Vogler String Quartet and the actress ChrisTine Urspruch. Composers have dedicated their works to Christian Segmehl, including Moritz Eggert, Enjott Schneider, Viola Falb, Věra Čermáková, Michael Essl, Tom Smith and Ulrich Schultheiss. In 2015 his two CDs “Saxophon plus” and “Aggro” were released (voted “CD of the month July 2015” by BR). In the same year he was invited to the DSH Festival in Prague, in 2016 for a concert in Saudi Arabia and in 2017 to the “Les Trois Orgues” Festival in the South of France. Together with his duo partner Johannes Mayr, he played five concerts in various organ concert series as part of a tour of France in 2019. In 2019 he founded his own concert series "AllgäuKonzerte", to which well-known artists are invited. During the pandemic, Christian Segmehl was overjoyed to be able to play great projects: With the BR Symphony Orchestra and Sir Simon Rattle, he produced the 70-minute masterpiece by Georg Friedrich Haas "in vain". In June 2021, he played 9 concerts in 2 weeks at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg. He took part in a world premiere of Olga Neuwirth with the Berlin Philharmonic. In 2022, with the Augsburg Philharmonic, he played the German premiere of the saxophone concerto "A Kind of Trane" by the French composer Guillaume Connesson in front of over 3,000 listeners. In 2024 he received an invitation to play the festival closing concert in Lithuania as soloist with the Kaunas Symphony Orchestra.
