Lithuania, the country of my heritage, has a strong tradition of printmaking. From an early age I have been fascinated by the art created there, especially the black and white linoleum and woodblock prints.
I carved my first linoleum block at the age of 12 and have never stopped. I received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Printmaking, having explored all aspects of the medium: lithography, etching, relief printing and serigraphy.
After several years of creating etchings, I recently returned to carving linoleum blocks. Carving is very physical, requiring concentration and control, but the repetitive motion becomes meditative and calming. Quite often I barely notice that the whole day has gone by as I carve out my designs. The inking and printing are done by hand and each print is unique. In this exhibit, I will display a number of large scale black and white linoleum prints. I belong to the California Society of Printmakers, the Los Angeles Printmaking Society and The Boston Printmakers and exhibit my prints in their curated exhibits. Recently my prints have been in exhibits in Germany, Japan, Lithuania and throughout the United States.
