"Songs of the double bass" - the double bassist Donatas Bagurskas, awarded with this epithet after one of his concerts, is becoming an increasingly prominent ambassador of his instrument in Lithuania and abroad. After graduating from Kaunas J. Naujalis Music Gymnasium and the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theater, D. Bagurskas in 2000-2010. was St. Concertmaster of the double bass group of the Christopher Chamber Orchestra, played in the chamber orchestra "Kremerata Baltica", and is currently a member of the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra.
Donatas Bagurskas regularly performs as a soloist with various orchestras. in 2011 Nino Rota's Concert divertissement for double bass with orchestra, conducted by Marcello Rota, was performed on the stage of the Vilnius festival. in 2014 D. Bagurskas with the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra performed Gavin Bryars Concerto for double bass, male choir and orchestra "Farewell to St. Petersburg", and in 2017 - Armando Trovajoli Suite for double bass and orchestra "Sconcerto". D. Bagurskas performed not only these, but also many other works of world classics for double bass in Lithuania for the first time. in 2009 the double bassist took part in a special Unicef charity concert "Classical Geniuses of the World", where he performed Camille Saint-Saëns' "Carnival of the Beasts" with Julian Rachlin, Itamar Golan, Richard Joo, Aleksei Igudesman, Boris Andrianov and Sir Roger Moore. D. Bagurskas was invited to collaborate in the recording of Bulgarian composer Dobrinka Tabakova's album "String Paths" (published by ECM), which was released in 2014. was nominated for a Grammy Award.
The double bass player's repertoire is extremely wide. It contains works from baroque masterpieces to contemporary music compositions, including Denis Grotsky's Double Bass Concert specially created and dedicated to him. D. Bagurskas also performs as a jazz musician - together with singer Evelina Sashenko and pianist Dmitriys Golovanov, he presented the program "Chopin Jazz Inn", participated in the Birštonas Jazz Festival in Linos Rimša's project "Anaiptol". D. Bagurskas cooperates with the string quartets of Čiurlionis, Chordos, and Mettis, and is a member of the ensemble "4 Tango". As a virtuoso performer, he conducts master classes, is invited to participate in the jury of international competitions.
One of the latest initiatives of D. Bagurskas is a double bass orchestra, which is unique in Lithuania.
