Erik Eriksson (Copenhagen / Falun / Karlstad - based, 1989) studied contemporary dance at P.A.R.T.S. in Brussels, Belgium 2010-2014, and a MFA in Dance and Participation at DDSKS in Copenhagen, Denmark 2020-2022.
His works has been showed at festivals such as: LIFT (UK), Homo Novus and Sansusi (LV), LÓKAL (IS), Brådjupa, FLOCK (SE) and Teater an Zee (BE), and in 2015, he received Latvian Theatre Awards for "best dance piece" with the duet ”Vērpete”.
Erik's work springs from a passion to share the physical sensation of movement, and the experience to be inside the dance rather than looking at it. Each performance is therefore created as an immersive universe that moves with the audience and performers, as they move through it together. Relating to each given space as a dance partner and fellow performer, Erik creates experiences that dance and sing together with the moods, movements and harmonies that each specific environment emit.
I am interested in materials and phenomena that somehow make us move.
A swing makes us sway. Sudden sounds makes us turn our heads.
A landscape sparks the curiosity to explore.
Through these materials, I try to charm the attention of the audience to dance.
Partly to make something beautiful, partly to turn attention
towards itself and how we use it.
