Ferenc List's creative activity lasted more than 60 years and had a great influence on the development of European music. F. Liszt is regarded as the most talented European pianist-virtuoso of his time. At the same time, he was a very original composer who enriched the technique of playing the piano with his works to a rich, almost orchestral sound. The compositions (many of them are dedicated to program music) are characterized by romantic elation (sometimes turning into pathos), emotionality, expressive melodies close to Hungarian folk music; they contain philosophical generalizations, connections with other branches of art, often tending to improvisation. Liszt is considered the creator of the symphonic poem genre; he renewed many means of musical expression, expanded the subject matter and expression capabilities of piano pieces. F. Liszt left more than 700 works. His literary activity - books, essays about music, letters - is also multi-volume.
