It was early January 2008, sometime after my big competitions in Berlin and Munich, sometime after the turn of the year, and somehow looking for new goals, challenges, and breaking out of a certain phase of listlessness. After getting up, somewhere between morning tiredness, cornflakes and orange juice, I read an email from my teacher Prof. Jonas Bylund suggesting participation in an ensemble competition. I became curious, started to browse through the regulations of the competition, and my mood changed from rather sceptical at first, then curious, to a slight restlessness.
This restlessness then paved the way for a euphoria that led to this not being one of those cosy and "normal" days, but a day with countless calls, conversations, thoughts, ideas and plans, or the birth of Trombone Unit Hannover.
In March 2007, Frederic Belli became the first trombonist in the 30-year history of the competition to win the Deutscher Musikwettbewerb, and in autumn 2007 he won second prize and the Brüder Busch Special Prize at the ARD International Music Competition in Munich.
He is also a scholarship holder of the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben.
Since October 2006 Frederic Belli has been solo trombonist with the SWR Sinfonieorchester Baden- Baden and Freiburg, now SWR Symphonieorchester.
His first solo CD was released on the Genuin label in January 2011.
