Graduated from Kaunas 22nd Secondary School in 1972. In 1973 he graduated from the piano department of the J. Gruodis Higher Music School. In 1978 graduated from the piano class of Prof. Olga Šteinbergaitė at the LSSR Conservatory. In 1980-1982 he studied at the Moscow Gnesin Pedagogical Music Institute (post-graduate course) in the class of Prof. Yevgeny Liberman.

Karjera
Concerted as a pianist. He founded a chamber music ensemble and toured with it to Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Estonia, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Slovenia, Sweden.
1987-1988 Deputy Director General for Artistic Affairs of the Lithuanian National Philharmonic. From 1988 to 2000 Director General of the Lithuanian National Philharmonic Orchestra.
1992-1994 worked in Monaco, head of the institution. From 2001 to 2002 he lived and worked in Monaco.
Minister of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania from November 2000 to July 2001. Member of the Vilnius City Municipal Council 2003-2007 and 2007-2011. 2005-2012 Chairman of the Council of the LAMTA.
Works as a consultant for international festivals and as a manager of international art projects. In 1997 he founded and managed Vilnius Festival. He has organised over 80 concerts with Lord Yehudi Menuhin, the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra and Kaunas State Choir in P. America (at the Colon Theatre in Buenos Aires), P. Africa, Egypt, Europe; several dozen concerts of the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra and Kaunas State Choir at the world's most famous festivals and concert halls, with Mstislav Rostropovich, Krzystof Penderecki, Jessye Norman, Maurice Andre, Yuri Bashmet, Vadim Repin, Julian Rachlin. He has also organised tours of the LNOBT Ballet Company to Germany, Greece, USA (Kennedy Arts Centre, Washington DC), Japan, UK (Barbican Centre, London), under the baton of Mstislav Rostropovich.
He has participated in the Annual Conferences and General Assemblies of the main international performing arts associations - International Performing Arts Association (ISPA), International Association of Arts Managers (IAMA), European Festivals Association (EFA). Presentations at the ISPA Conference in Stockholm, the International Conference "Modern Cultural Management - Part of Cultural Policy" in Vilnius, the EU Ministers of Culture and Audiovisual Roundtable in Falun (Sweden), and the Roundtable of Ministers of Culture organised by UNESCO.
