Alytus Youth Symphony Orchestra ”Svajonė” ("Dream") was established in 2005 during the preparation for the fifth International Youth Creative Camp “Dream 2005” where musicians from Lithuania , Sweden and Spain participated. The first programme of the orchestra and mixed choir was conducted by Modestas Pitrenas who is both the conductor of Kaunas town symphony orchestra and the conductor of Lithuanian National Philharmonic.
In September of 2006 Youth Symphony Orchestra ”Dream” took part in The Youth Creative Camp in Catalonia, Spain.
At the beginning of Summer in 2007 the orchestra gave a performance during Alytus and Marijampole Town Days as well as at the International Music Festival in Siauliai “Fiori musicali”, where Saulius Sondeckis the professor warmly praised the way orchestra plays the music. In August the orchestra visited Latvia and performed in Ceisis.
In November of 2007 the orchestra performed the concerts which were organized by Lithuanian Union of Musicians “Musica Magna” both in Alytus and in Vilnius during “The Great Parade of Musicians” even in The National Philharmonic. At the end of December the orchestra prepared vivacious programme for the New Year together with other five Alytus choirs of students and adults.
In May of 2008 they performed together with Vilnius B. Dvarionas ten-year Music school Youth Symphony Orchestra. The final piece of the concert by M. Reveli “Bolero” was performed by both of the orchestras together.
The orchestra consists of 60 musicians most of whom are either the students of Alytus Music School , its graduates or teachers. The wind section of the orchestra is lead by a flutist Justina Jocyte, violoncellists are lead by Antanina Pasaraviciene. The musicians were developed and helped by their teachers L.Vaitkus, R. Frendzeliene, R. Girdziene, J. Nastuleviciene, D. Klemkaite, I. Kriksciuniene, D. Platukis, G. Rakauskas, V. Asadauskas.
