Electronic music fans remember with nostalgia the Christmas event ElectroXmas in Vilnius in 2010 and its main star. The wait was long, but the band's promise to return will be fulfilled this autumn: after a 14-year hiatus, the Swedish electronic music star Covenant will be back in Lithuania! This time their visit will be a bit longer, as they are scheduled to perform two shows. On October 25, Covenant will perform at the Vilnius entertainment venue Vakaris and on October 25, at the Vilnius entertainment hall Vakaris.
In the mid-1980s, three Swedish youngsters from the small town of Helsingborg became interested in and discovered the world of electronic music. Joakim Montelius, Clas Nachmanson and Eskil Simonsson were fascinated by the work of Kraftwerk, The Human League and Front 242. All of these bands can be called pioneers of EBM (Electronic Body Music). In between lectures, the boys experimented in a small recording studio until they decided to make music their future. In 1989, they chose the name "Covenant" for their band.
The band's first song to reach the ears of listeners was "The Replicant". It did not go unnoticed by the labels, and the first album Dreams of a Cryotank was released in 1994. Two years later, Covenant released their second album, Sequencer, which became a true classic of the genre. Many critics hailed it as one of the best electro albums of the period.
With the release of their fourth studio effort, United States of Mind, in 1999, the band was awarded three SEMA (Swedish Electronics Music Awards). Following these awards, Covenant toured Europe and the USA with great success, playing at major electronic music festivals. The band's style could be seen gradually changing from EBM to a more aggressive synth-pop/future-pop sound. Covenant is acknowledged by many critics and fans as having contributed to the creation of a new musical style at the time, future-pop. Albums such as United States of Mind (2000) and especially Northern Light (2002) signalled another evolution of Covenant's musical style. This time, they dove into a "dark" and "cold" sound.
Covenant - now veterans of the electronic music scene - stand out from other bands of the genre with their more complex melodies, unique rhythms and expressive vocals. The band's music is full of energy without being aggressive. "Covenant always prefers a good sound, creating a special show with a musical energy that is bursting at the edges. The band only plays live during their performances. In the words of its members, "it's an opportunity to communicate directly with the audience, to see our real listeners, for whom we create music".
It's been 14 years since Covenant last visited Lithuania. In that time, they have released three more studio albums, each marking new uncharted territory for electronic music. In the upcoming concerts in Lithuania, Covenant fans can expect not only the band's most famous hits, but also the unpredictable and impulsive experiments that the Swedish electronic geniuses often throw up during their live performances. Where the musicians' new paths and paths will lead is not yet clear, but one thing is for sure - it will be nothing less than the world of Covenant electronic music!
