The group's history began in 1974. in the spring, when Viktoras Prapras and Ričardas Bartusevičius, students of the Vilnius Institute of Engineering and Construction, formed a group of faculty musicians. The first performances took place at dances. The repertoire included The Beatles, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Deep Purple, as well as several songs of his own creation. September 1 of the same year. the first serious performance took place during a student party. Egidijus Prekevičius (keyboards), Arvydas Sriubas (solo guitar), Petras Miežėnas (drums) also played in the group. in 1975 Viktoras Prapras became the leader of the group in July. In the same year, before the concert in Aukštadvary, Ričardas Bartusevičius came up with a name for the group - "Hyperbolė", although it was given much later as the name of a folk collective.
The collective's musical level rose, soon they were noticed by the Department of Culture, the group began to participate in inspections. in 1975 drummer Arvydas Šnaras and second vocalist Michails Garberis, who later became the band's leader, were invited. in 1977 Hyperbole won the international competition in Yerevan, during which the group performed the song "Dilgelė" by V. Lopos and A. Mikutas, "Kad žaliauų ruta" by B. Gorbulskis and A. Dabulskis, and the instrumental piece "BAM'as" by keyboard player A. Grudzis. Sometimes the group was criticized for overly temperamental performance and shocking arrangements, but it was also appreciated for its specific timbres, national color, originality, ability to feel the mood of the audience. in 1978 in the same competition, the group won a prize place. This is how Hyperbole became famous outside of Lithuania. Also in 1978 after Arvydas Sriubu left the group, he was replaced by Igor Berin, with the arrival of this musician, the members actively started creating songs themselves. True, the group was not overtaken by Soviet censorship, which especially intensified after the burning of Roman Kalanta, so the songs were composed according to the verses of folk poets, and only music by Soviet authors was arranged in their own way. Sava music could only be played at unofficial events depending on the leniency of the authorities. Nazareth, Bad company, ABBA, Uriah Heep songs were also performed at the dances. in 1980 the group was given the official title of a well-deserved folk collective.
in 1979 Hyperbole began to turn towards concert activity. At that time, Arūnas Gruzdys left the group. The permanent composition of the group was formed. in 1980 the group held 64 concerts, in 1982 – 104, and in 1983 even - 156. The members themselves marketed their records thus popularizing their music. The group reached the peak of its popularity, and in 1984 became the Philharmonic collective.
in 1984 this group, like other rock groups, was disbanded by government structures as a threat to the communist system
.in 1991 the group recovered, fans greeted it with the slogan "Hyperbole - forever!". During the revival tour, 40 concerts were held (6 in Vilnius, 7 sold out in Kaunas). Due to the unsuccessful financial situation, the group was forced to break up again.
A second comeback took place in 1996, with concerts that once again drew crowds. During four years of musical activity, Hiperbolė released four more studio albums.
