n 1963, Rimantas Zdanavičius founded a boys' choir in Klaipėda. In 1966, the team was given the name "Gintarelis". The directors of the choir were N. Gricienė (1969-1973), A. Rožė (1974-1984), Juozas Kubilius (1985-2012). Since 2013 the choir is led by Tomas Ambrozaitis.
Eventually, the collective grew into a choir of boys and young people. In 1970, the II Children's Music School was established in Klaipėda (Jeronimos Kačinskas Music School in 1995), where a choral singing department was opened. Here, the choristers of "Gintarelis" begin to consistently learn music (solfedi, music history, piano, choral conducting).
Boys aged 6-7 are admitted to the choral singing specialty. The first year they sing in the preparatory choir, the 9-14-year-olds in the boys' and mixed choirs, and the 15-year-olds and older in the youth and mixed choirs. Each mentioned age group prepares separate concert programs.
