The Copenhagen Boys' Choir - The Royal Kantori has existed for almost 100 years (founded in 1924 by Mogens Wøldike). The choir is attached to Sankt Annæ Gymnasium, which is Copenhagen Municipality's singing school. Here, boys and girls aged 9-14 receive professional singing training as an integral part of their regular schooling.
The Copenhagen Boys' Choir sings both a cappella and with orchestra. At large concerts with an orchestra, up to 120 singers take part, as a well-trained male choir lays the sonorous foundation of the music. At other concerts, the choir sings in smaller groups. The choir mainly sings classical music, which is written specifically for boys' and men's voices.Carsten Seyer-Hansen has been the choir's chief conductor since 2020.
The choir's extensive work and high artistic level have meant that personalities such as Benjamin Britten, Raphael Kubelik, Sir Andrew Davies and Paul McCreesh have been on the conductor's podium. In addition, great Scandinavian composers such as Poul Ruders, Per Nørgård, Knut Nystedt, Sven-David Sandström and Palle Mikkelborg have all written works dedicated to the Copenhagen Boys' Choir.
The choir has an extensive concert activity in Denmark and has gained an international reputation with its tours over most of the world. In addition, the Copenhagen Boys' Choir regularly collaborates with the Royal Theatre, DR Symphony Orchestra, Copenhagen Phil and the Copenhagen Baroque Ensemble.H.K.H. Crown Prince Frederik is patron of the Copenhagen Boys' Choir.
