Musicians of the DISOBEDIENT ENSEMBLE were performing together in various combinations, and on various programmes for many years. In 2005, the seven musicians became the founding members of the festival of music and ecology “The Land of Disobedient” and performed seven different concert programmes in Juodkrantė and Nida. The ensemble was also invited to perform at “Pažaislis“ festival in Kaunas, and the same year performed concerts in Palanga, Vilnius, Klaipėda.
In 2006, the ensemble prepared another six programmes for now annual festival of music and ecology “The Land of Disobedient”, and toured Lithaunia again, performing in Plungė (at M.Oginski festival) , Klaipėda, Pociūnai (at „Pažaislis“ festival), Kurtuvėnai (at Tytuvėnai festival), and Vilnius (Composers Union House, and Arsenal Hall).
The name of the ensemble is derived from the festival of music and ecology “The Land of Disobedient”, at which the members of the ensemble annually perform. The name also reflects the programming of the ensemble (inclusion of jazz, theatre elements, pantomime, and video, as well as creating new performing genres) and belief of the ensemble members that disobedience toward routine of everyday and concert life could be an essential impetus for creativity.
