2003-2007 studied and obtained a bachelor's degree at the Faculty of Arts of Klaipėda University (in the class of the distinguished Lithuanian artist Ona Glinskaitė). She also obtained her Master's degree there. He participated in master classes with Prof. Lilian Sikis, Teodore Ganger, Michael Sturm, Adelheid Engst.
He won a number of competitions: the Song Song Song Contest 2002, the first prize in the Lithuanian Children's Art Festival "Russian Wreath" (2002, Klaipėda), the 7th International Festival "The Sounding Wave" (he was awarded a prize). In 2006 he took part in the 7th International Chamber Singing Competition "Янтарный соловей" (The Amber Nightingale), which was dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of D. Shostakovich and was awarded the special prize "Nadezhda" (Hope). In 2008 he took part in the 27th International Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition in Vienna, where he won the second prize in the opera category and several special prizes - Audience Prize, alla Scala Theatre Prize, Rhine Opera Prize, Klagenfurt City Theatre Prize. In 2010 he was a finalist in the 1st International Singing Competition at the Sanvolina Opera Festival.
2006-2008 the young artist worked at the Klaipėda Opera Theatre, where he prepared the roles of Don Basilio (Il Barbiere di Siviglia), Prince Gremin (Eugene Onegin), the Commendatore (Don Giovanni), Uberto (La Serva Padrona), Doctor Grenvil (La Traviata) and Figaro (Le Nozze di Figaro).
As a soloist he has given concerts in Lithuania, Russia, Belarus, Latvia, Germany, Austria and Belgium. He is a member of the opera studio of the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, where he has created roles in Macbeth, La Traviata, Boheme, Otello and Lohengrin.
In 2008-2009 he worked at the Bayerische Staatsoper, where he created smaller roles in important productions such as Verdi's Macbeth, Palestrina, Bohemia, Otello, Lohengrin. In the same year he appeared with baritone Paolo Gavanelli in Rigoletto in a concert at the Herkulessaal der Residenz in Munich with the Münchner Opernorchester.
2009-10 he sang at the Zurich Opera, where he created the role of Orestes under the baton of Gustav Kuhn, and his debut at the Zurich Opera was the role of (Sciaronne) in Tosca as Schliesser under the baton of Nello Santi.
2011/12 he sang at the Vlaamse Oper Oper. Here he created Ivan Sjoeran (Tchaikovsky's Tschaikovsky's Tsjarodejka- dir. D. Jurowski), Don Prudencio (Rossini's Il Viaggio a Reims- dir. A. Zedda), Alcade/Chirurgo (Verdi's La Forza del Destino - dir. A. Joel), and Daniel (Donizetti's Le Duc dAlbe - dir. P. Carignani). In 2011 Bakan sang Oroe in Semiramide at the Edinburgh Festival. She will remain at the Vlaamse Opera for the 2011-12 season and will also sing at the Cologne Opera.
