Born in the Paris region, Julien Derouault studied at the Le Mans Conservatory, then at the Angers Regional National Conservatory. He joined the Ballet National de Marseille and was appointed soloist of the Ballet National de Marseille under the direction of Marie-Claude Pietragalla. He performed the greatest roles in the company's repertoire and worked with William Forsythe, Rui Horta, Claude Brumachon, Richard Wherlock, Rudi Van Dantzig, Carolyn Carlson, etc. His career quickly took another turn, he signed his first choreographies with the choreographer Marie-Claude Pietragalla, including Sakountala, Ni Dieu Ni Maître, Ivresse, Fleurs d'Automne, Don Quichotte. In 2004, he founded his company Théâtre du Corps based in the Paris region in Alfortville. With Marie-Claude Pietragalla, he experiments with multiple choreographic and theatrical techniques to create a new aesthetic on the dramaturgy of the human being and his unconscious. His close connection with literature, theater and poetry leads him to a specific work on the actor-dancer and on a breathing technique to master the danced verb. His work emphasizes the correspondence between language and the body in movement. His creations Être ou être, les Chaises, Lorenzaccio, la Femme qui danse, Dans la Solitude des Champs de Coton, La Leçon, are striking examples of the Théâtre du Corps repertoire. Marie-Claude Pietragalla and himself have, throughout their research work, multiplied experiments in the digital field, whether with the living decor cartoon of Marco Polo, the immersive 3D box of Mr. and Mrs. Dream or the sound universe of sensors modulating the voice and interacting with the movement on the image in the Dancing Woman. Curious to expand the scope of his knowledge, he produces all the video communication media as well as promotional short films for the company. He also collaborates as a director with other companies. He opened with Marie-Claude Pietragalla a Training Center for Apprentices in 2021 which is aimed at young dancers and which provides training in artistic excellence over 2 years with his diploma as a body theater artist. In 2022, he was appointed artistic director of the POC theater by the city of Alfortville.
