I am Karolina Šiburkytė, a jeweller, and 'Anima' is the word I chose to place my work under. In Latin, 'anima' means soul, life; C.G. Jung calls anima the unconscious feminine element in male psychology. Anima is also associated with the English word 'animal' - animal, beast. All these meanings and allusions are magically intertwined and actualized in my work.
The main source of my inspiration has always been nature, the human relationship with it, my personal experiences and experiences of acting in its context. I try to make my jewellery an extension of it, a kind of talisman, which, forever 'frozen' in metal, can paradoxically outlive the works of nature that gave birth to it - whether it is a flower blossom, a creature of the underwater world, or a sophisticated piece of moss found in the forest floor. Or maybe just a feeling of being surrounded by living nature.
I hope that my works will become your daily companions, reminding you of the connection between us and the world around us, of its beauty, sometimes majestic and breathtaking, and sometimes barely visible, but stirring us to the very core of our souls.
