Maija Mustonen (b. 1979 in Helsinki, she/her) is a multidisciplinary artist and curator. She works at the intersections of performance art, dance and visual arts. Mustonen is interested in long-term, gentle practices of support and sharing. Her work explores issues of tactility, rest, surrender and nurturing touch. Her works emerge from collaborations and often take shape around an action or practice.
Mustonen has made works in new dance, performance and visual arts spaces, as well as site-specific works. She is a founding member of rendezvous association and workspace. Besides her artistic work Mustonen works as a curator for performance and live arts space Mad House Helsinki.
Mustonen holds a Master of Fine Arts (Uniarts Helsinki, Academy of Fine Arts, time-space) and a Bachelor of dance and choreography (Laban Centre, London). She has also studied performance art and theory at the Theatre Academy.
