Marco Gemelli is born in Penne (PE) in 1983, he studied classical accordion since the age of 7 under the guidance of M° Claudio Calista. After the untimely death of M° Calista, he continued his studies with M° Cesare Chiacchiaretta and graduated with the highest marks and praise at the Conservatorio “Luisa D’Annunzio” in Pescara under the guidance of M° Claudio Jacomucci. He won the Absolute First Prize in several National and International Competitions: Capistrello (AQ), Morro D’Oro (TE), Magliano dei marsi (AQ), Baragiano (PO), Caramanico (PE), Latina, Rieti, Lanciano (CH), Montese (MO), Termoli, Loreto Marche (AN), Poggio Rusco (MT), Spoltore (PE), Tollo (CH). In 2003 he won the Special Prize as the best Italian contestants in the International Competition “Città di Castelfidardo”, offered by the Cultural Association “Mantice Armonico”.
In 2004 and 2006 he was chosen as Italy’s representative at the “Coupe Mondiale de l’Accordeon” CIA Imc-Unesco held respectively in Pontarlier (France) and Asker (Norway). He has a constant concert activity both as accordionist and as bandoneonist. He was one of the members of the active accordion group “Accord’Ance”, with which he participated in some of the most important national and international concert shows such as “MusicaRivaFestival”, “Settimana mozartiana”, “Nei Suoni dei Luoghi”, “Brindisi Classica”, “Amici della Musica di Ragusa”, “Ente Luglio Musicale Trapani” and “Etruria Classica”. He is the founder and soloist of the“ Cuarteto del Misterio” and one of the three accordion players that made up the “Bajan Trio” with which he performed in several seasons such as Brianza Classica, Festival Ruggiero Leoncavallo. In the “Mediterranean Festival” he has also had the pleasure and the honour to perform in absolute premiere the piece “SUA” by Gorka Hermosa. He has actively collaborated with Luis Bacalov (Oscar Award for the soundtrack of the film “Il Postino”) for the music of theatrical performance “Napoletango”. He performed for the first time the accordion part of the opera “Il Fuoco” (text by Gabriele D’Annunzio) by composer Stefano Taglietti at the ex-Aurum theatre in Pescara.
In 2015 he collaborated as an accordionist and bandoneonist with the “Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana” of Lugano, directed by M° Markus Poshner. In the same year he performed as a soloist with the Philharmonic quartet “Mihail Jora” from Bacau (Romania). He performed as a soloist with important Italian, European and Americanorchestras and chamber music group such as the Orchestra Sinfonica of Sanremo, Orchestra Sinfonica “città di Grosseto”, Orchestra Filarmonica of Calabria, Orchestra Filarmonica Marchigiana, Tomsk State Philharmonic Orchestra (Russia), Krasnoyarsk Symphony Orchestra (Russia), Bryansk Philharmonic Orchestra (Russia), Lubbock Symphony Orchestra (Texas), Mihail Jora Philarmonic Orchestra (Romania), Orchestra Filarmonica di Botosani (Romania), Quartet of the Conservatorio of Prague (Czech Republic), Quartet of the Mons Royal Conservatory (Belgium).
In 2017 he performed for the first time the tracks: “La Vita delle Cose” by Renzo Ruggieri for accordion and symphonic orchestra, “Il Mondo Nuovo” by Petri Makkonen for accordion and strings orchestra and “In nomine terrae” by Cesare Chiacchiaretta for accordion and strings orchestra (this last composition was performed during the 70° Coupe Mondiale de l’Accordeon held in Osimo).
In 2018 he performed the absolute premiere of the classical accordion piece “Il Bosco Incantato” by Renzo Ruggieri. He is the creator and artistic director of the International Accordion Week in Calabria (Italia). For years he has been a member of the juries of some of the most important international accordion competitions in the world as the International Prize in Castelfidardo, the National selections for the Coupe Mondiale de l’Accordeon and the World Accordion Trophy, the Semana of Accordion in Alcobaca (Portugal), Concours International “Accordèons-Nous” in Mons (Belgio). He teaches accordion at the Civic Musical School in San Giovanni Teatino (CH). He is a professor of classical accordion at the Conservatorio “Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky ” in Nocera Terinese and Catanzaro.
