The creative process of sculptor Marija Šnipaitė is a search for diverse connections between everyday rituals and common cultural and visual experiences. The reflection of these connections turns into spatial structures, the elements of which abandon their ordinary functions and usual materiality. Most objects balance between the desire to remain abstract and to be identified and recognized by the viewer. The artist herself often calls her works “staged spatial installations”. These installations, with their composition and the props of the materials used, resemble scenographies in which objects are connected by close mutual connections and a narrative line. Objects found in the space of the work create a network of associations that allows the viewer to sink into melancholic, dozing, timeless states. M. Šnipaitė’s installations are often constructed based on landscape structures, in which environmental motifs are recreated using everyday elements. By varying these elements, the author transforms ordinary phenomena into evocative, atmospheric stories that show attention to space, environment, memory, and time.
