Martynas Švėgžda von Bekker started playing the violin at the age of 5; He played his first recital at the age of 7; 11 years old - the first concert with the Vilnius Symphony Orchestra.
1973-1986 studied at the M.K. Čiurlionis School of Arts. 1986-1989 – at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theater with R. Katilių. Master's studies with Eberhardt Feltz (violin, 1983), Igor Bezrodny (violin, 1985), Igor Oistrakh (violin, 1988), Volker Banfield (chamber music 1990), Ralph Gothoni (chamber music 1990), Boris Garlitsky (violin 1996), Detlev Kraus (chamber music, 1992). in 1996 continued his studies at the Hamburg School of Music with Mark Lubotsky.
in 1983 participated in the Kozian international children's competition in the Czech Republic (IV place); in 1984 – Lithuanian youth competition (II place); 1990 – J. Brahms International Competition (III place). 1991-1995 performed with the pianist trio "Coloris". Elise Meyer (violin) and Haussman (chamber music) won first places in international competitions.
in 1993 played the Alfred Schnittke Violin Concerto with the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra. This was the premiere of this work in Germany.
Since 2001 is the director of the annual international music festival "Alternatyva". Lived and worked in Lithuania since 2003. August. Since September 2009 is on LMTA training leave; Boston University lecturer introduces students to the 20th century. music by Lithuanian (such as Balys Dvarionas, Eduardas Balsys, Osvaldas Balakauskas, Vytautas Barkauskas, etc.) and Russian composers.
