printmaker known for works made by stone lithography.
Matti Hintikka was able to study at the age of 25 at the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts at the first attempt. At art school, he experimented with various artmaking techniques, from which lithography took over. In a rock litography, he was attracted to the uniqueness of a stone as a printing plate that nothing else could replace.
In 1999-2000 Hintikka lived in the United States, where he studied to be a professional drawer of lithography at the prestigious Tamarind Institute.
Not only technology, but also Matti Hintikka’s work, the theme of Matti Hintikka’s work has remained the same for decades. Work is usually born of nature and natural phenomena. The starting point for the work is a landscape that can be understood as concrete as well as mental.
In 2001, Matti Hintikka and Kuutti Lavonen founded Helsinki’s Kivipaino, which offers printing services for art lithography. Hintikka is a senior master of stone weight in Helsinki and teaches lithography at the Academy of Fine Arts in Helsinki.
Hintika was granted an artist pension from the beginning of 2022.
