In the world of free jazz and improvisational music, Mette Rasmussen is famous for her "explosive energy". Whether playing solo or Mats Gustafsson's Fire! Orchestra and Godspeed You! Black Emperor”, sparks fly from her improvisations. At times, Mette's alto saxophone evokes passages of the legendary Albert Ayler, at other times the ferocious M. Gustafsson, but the Dane has managed to resist the influences and form her own individual sound and playing style, characterized by piercing treble and controlled free jazz improvisations.
Exploring the sonic possibilities and limits of expression of the saxophone, M. Rasmussen uses a colorful palette of techniques, constantly expanding the musical vocabulary of her instrument.
Born in Aarhus, the artist studied music in Helsinki and is currently pursuing a PhD at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in Trondheim.
Since the beginning of her career, she has performed in various trios: she played with Kasper Tom Christiansen and Andreas Lang, was the leader of the trio "Riot" with British saxophonist Sam Andreae and Swiss drummer David Meier, toured with Ch. Corsano and Georges Paul. She also played with Ch. Corsan in two, released albums with him and three with Tashi Dorji and Tyler Damon.M. Rasmussen also collaborated with the groups of Alan Silva, Tobias Delius, Rudi Mahal, Wilbert de Joode, Axel Dörner, John Edwards, Craig Taborn, Ståle Liavik Solberg, M. Gustafsson.
She has toured with numerous partners and bands including Sofia Jernberg, Knarr, The Hatch, Julien Desprez, Godspeed You! Black Emperor', Zeena Parkins, Barry Guy, Val Jeanty, Petter Eldu, Savannah Harris
In recent years, M. Rasmussen spends more time on tour than at home, she appears at about 150 concerts a year.
