Michael Schöch is one of few musicians to be equally proficient in both the piano and organ repertoire to the same extent and standard. Since being awarded 1st prize at the ARD International Music Competition in the organ category, an award that was issued again for the first time in 40 years, he performed at famous places, such as the Wiener Konzerthaus, Leipziger Gewandhaus, Philharmonie im Gasteig München, Münchener Herkulessaal, Semperoper Dresden, Berliner Philharmonie, Berliner Konzerthaus and the cathedrales of Riga, Passau, Merseburg, Mainz and Speyer.
He has performed with renowned orchestras, for example the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra, the Staatsorchester Kassel, the Nürnberger Symphoniker, Tiroler Symphonieorchester Innsbruck and the Orchestre de l’Opéra de Rouen.
Michael Schöch’s work is documented in numerous broadcast recordings (such as ORF, BR, SWR, Deutschlandradio) as well as various album productions. He has recorded piano concertos of Tyrolean composers (Johann Rufinatscha, Emil Berlanda, Karl Senn), as well as the piano concerto by Robert Schumann together with the Academy St. Blasius Orchestra.
His latest recordings are the complete piano and organ works of Julius Reubke (OehmsClassics), the complete clarinet sonatas by Max Reger with Robert Oberaigner,clarinet (MDG) and the clarinet sonatas and the clarinet trio by Johannes Brahms with Robert Oberaigner, clarinet and Norbert Anger, cello (MDG).
Michael Schöch studied piano in Innsbruck with Bozidar Noev, in Munich with Gerhard Oppitz and in Salzburg with Pavel Gililov as well as organ in Munich with Edgar Krapp.
Among numerous other awards he won 1st prizes at the international piano competition “Franz Schubert” in Rousse/Bulgaria, at the international organ competition “August Everding” in Munich at the competition for the Gasteig Culture Award in Munich and at the ARD International Music Competition.
Since 2015 he is professor of organ at the Tiroler Landeskonservatorium in Innsbruck.
