Michal Baranski-contrabassist and bass guitarist. He was born in 1984. He is a graduate of the Jazz Department of the Academy of Music in Katowice. As a fourteen-year-old, he was spotted at a music workshop by American clarinetist Brad Terry. Together with pianist Mateusz Kołakowski and percussionist Tomasz Torres, they became part of Terry's quartet, touring the U.S. many times and gaining training at the source of jazz.
He is the winner of the Grand Prix award, which he received at the 40th Jazz Nad Odrą festival in the ensemble category. He was awarded the Jazz Angel at the Bielska Zadymka Jazzowa in 2005. He also received the Swinging Crow grand prize at the 3rd Hot Jazz Spring in Czestochowa. With his band Triology (Mateusz Kołakowski - piano, Tomasz Torres - drums), he won fourth place at the Jazz Hoeliaart International Jazz Ensemble Competition in Belgium.
He has performed at the Knitting Factory in New York, Jazz Bakery in Los Angeles, Vail Jazz Festival in Colorado, Berklee Performance Center in Boston. He collaborates with American and Polish jazzmen:Bennie Maupin, Dan Tepfer,Nigel Kennedy, David Doruzka, Tomasz Stanko, Zbigniew Namysłowski, Michał Urbaniak, Henryk Miśkiewicz, Piotr Baron, Janusz Muniak, Grzegorz Nagórski, Joachim Mencel, Maciej Sikała, Jose Torres, Grzech Piotrowski, Aga Zaryan, Mieczysław Szcześniak, Kuba Badach, Dorota Miśkiewicz, Anna Serafińska, as well as the formation Mate.o, the band Afromental, Natalia Niemen and the band New Life M, as well as the gospel choir Trzecia godzina Dnia.
